Under the Sea Mermaid Party – San Diego Event Photography

My twin girls had their birthday party last week – it was an “Under the Sea” party, complete with a mermaid cake, a mermaid “Happy Birthday” banner, and under the sea cupcakes.
I LOVE parties.  Planning my kids’ birthday party is something I really look forward to every year.  Since I have two kids and only get to do it once a year, I splurge a little and try to make it really fun and memorable.  My parents were so kind to let us have the whole bash in their fantastic backyard and the Lord blessed us with absolutely beautiful-couldn’t-ask-for-a-nicer-day weather.

This party started with a shopping trip on Etsy.com.  I wanted some hand-made decorations to base everything off of and I found a fantastic seller to help me out – PocketFullOfGlitter.

She hooked me up with the mermaid banner, the cupcake toppers, and the cake topper.  She even customized them with the colors I wanted.  After I received them, I made a few more things myself that coordinated, bought a bunch of blue food (jell-0, m&m’s, lollipops, fruit snacks), blue cups, plates, and napkins, and table covers (all bought on Oriental Trading Company.com), and 4 boxes of straws, so I could pick out all the blue ones!

The food all came from the Chinese place right down the street (China House Express). It was yummy, people seemed to like it and I was able to feed everyone for about $3/head!  I had three big shell-shaped bowls to put the food in and I painted ocean-critter-shaped pieces of wood for the food labels.  My hubby Jeff made a giant wood #4 (which I painted blue) to decorate the food table.

For entertainment, we rented a bounce house with a slide from House of Bounce.  I also hid a bunch of real dried starfish around the yard for the kids to find.  Kinda like an Easter Egg hunt.  Any they found, they got to take home with them.  For the gift bags I bought plain blue paper gift bags, decorated them with several colors of paper fish, and made little tags with a fish on the.  Each bag contained a fish stuffed animal (Oriental Trading Company) and an Under the Sea coloring book (Party City).  I also made some little bracelet kits for the girls with blue beads, fish beads, and starfish beads.

I had a great time!  My girls had a great time!  I’m already looking forward to next year!
